Finch Added to SAM CLI for Serverless App Testing Insights Desk, October 16, 2025 AWS announced that its Serverless Application Model Command Line Interface (SAM CLI) augments Finch as a substitute to Docker for local testing and development of serverless apps. The AWS SAM CLI is a major development tool created to soothe developing, evaluating, debugging, and integrating serverless applications prior to deployment on AWS Cloud. Until now, Docker was the only supported container runtime for local testing. Developers can now leverage Finch as their most suitable container infrastructure. The integration of Finch is a segment of AWS’s continual efforts of aligning development patterns for serverless developers. Finch offers a light and effective method of running containerized workloads without any overhead of traditional Docker integrations. The SAM CLI automatically detects Finch as the container tool when Docker is not available, and users can explicitly set Finch as their preferred runtime. AWS is optimizing its developer infrastructure by augmenting Finch. This enables builders to choose container developing platforms and pace up the route from local generation to production-oriented serverless applications. IT Infra appsCLIDataIT Infra
